You might have been to therapy before in your life. It may even have been very useful! I have discovered over the years, that the result of therapy sometimes takes time, months or even years.
The reason for this is possibly that healing requires us to untangle mixed emotions, apply meaning to thoughts and feeling that have long been automatic. We may even have brushed off certain insightful perspectives we discussed with a psychologist or a therapist but decided in the moment it wasn´t for us, even though it may have been.
Art therapy is no different except maybe for the very instant tangible result : an art piece.
Your words alone are not enough to make visual or plastic art. The creative process is an active experience which can help add a layer: it can help you remember or make sense of your transformation may it be in the form of an image, an object or even an ephemeral performance.
Art therapy offers a non verbal form of expression which can speak wonders.
