ART THERAPY | Laura Fleming
Training & Experience
I'm Laura and here you'll find a bit about my journey.
In 2020, I enrolled in the Healing Trauma with Guided Drawing® course while organizing intuitive painting sessions in Beijing for women who had an interest in getting in touch with their emotions.
I continued with a Diploma of Art Therapy with Metàfora, and graduated with a Master of Art Therapy in 2023, in Barcelona.
The Master program, based on THEORIES AND PRACTICES OF ART PSYCHOTHERAPY included practical work which I did in a public school. The individual and group sessions I facilitated were attended by children between the ages of 5 and 12 years old.
The Master’s qualifies to work as an Art Therapist. The Master’s, along with the Postgraduate Diploma are accredited by ATE (Spanish Professional Association of Art Therapists) and by FEAPA (Spanish Federation of Art Therapy Associations) in Spain. It follows the recommendations of professional art therapy associations in countries where this profession is officially regulated, such as the American Art Therapy Association (AATA), the Canadian Art Therapy Association (ACAT), the British Association of Art Therapists (BAAT). Metàfora is a member of the EFAT (European Federation of Art Therapy).
In March 2023, two of my fellow art therapists and myself formed an initiative, UNA, to provide a creative space for women.
I also completed a course in Mindful Self Compassion in 2019, at the Mindfulness Center in Beijing with Dalida which I apply accordingly in sessions, too.
I approach art therapy in an authentic, non-guided, and compassionate way, with a focus on building a strong therapeutic relationship with each patient.

Bachelor's Degree in Humanities: Communications & Sinology (in Geneva University)

Born and raised in Switzerland, Lausanne area, I grew up in a British family, and started life with a strong passion for languages, a way to communicate and connect with others.
After completing a Bachelor degree in Communications & Chinese at Neuchâtel University, I embarked in the corporate world, working mostly in communications & events, in both Switzerland and China.
In 2019, I was drawn to the field of art therapy:
Having always found comfort in art making (when not focused on the result!), I turned to the profession of art therapist.
I attended the Master Class at the Beijing International Art Therapy Conference in 2019, and was very moved by the experience with art therapist Cornelia Elbrecht.
